I apologize in advance for the lame cover photo for this piece. In all honesty if we begin to monetize this blog someday I think I'll have to take down most of our photos for copyright reasons - right now we're trying to write about the issues in a genuine manner and add some fun. I would have loved to hire a cartoonist to draw a monster peeping out the closet like in the Monsters Inc. movie, but beggars can't be choosers. So for now we'll have to settle with this lousy photo of a monster that looks more cuddly than scary.
Unlike the mythical boogymen, the sanctimonious politicians who inhabit DC do not hide in your closet or under your bed. They live detached from reality, unable to relate to the plight of working class individuals, and if they could, I think they would hide in your wallet behind the flap you keep all your cash in. I would venture to say most politicians are below average actors rather than problem solvers. Have you ever watched a congressional hearing? The amount of times these politicians make a big show of pointing their fingers and then fighting with a witness by screaming, "I reclaim my time, I reclaim my time," is enough to make someone need to pop two Advils or get a martini. I'm attaching a video below of Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (AOC), on the House floor giving a speech. Politics aside - does that look like someone who genuinely cares about the issues or a bunch of grand standing? Similarly, you may have seen this photo collection below:

This was supposed to be a photo shoot at a migrant detention facility, but it turned out to be taken at a nearly empty parking lot up the road. Putting that aside, does this look like a genuine grouping of photos. It just strikes me as grandstanding and degrades the issue - it feels like a big show. Why can't politicians just do something that improves the issue, why is everything a photo op? I don't mean to pick on AOC here, the examples were just fitting, and trust me they all do this on both sides of the aisle.
Most of these politicians tend to arrive in DC and spend the rest of their careers in office. I'd venture to say most of them actually accomplish close to nothing. How do people like Joe Biden, Mitch McConnell, and Nancy Pelosi become multi millionaires on a salary of $175k a year? The simple answer is they are mostly corrupt and looking out for their own self-interests. It really is a tragedy of epic proportions. I have been asking for a while now why the inner city schools are in rough shape, I've read books on the topic, and I see no sense of urgency to improve the circumstance confronting those in districts with poor public schools. To me, and I think most Americans it is infuriating. I saw a tweet from Chef Andrew Gruel, "I used to get super frustrated by the blatant hypocrisy in politics. Now I'm jus impressed with either side's ability to lie with such intensity they actually begin to believe their own lies. That's politics - the ability to believe your own lies." And again, this goes both ways, the overwhelming majority of politicians engage in this conduct.
With all this said, I'd like to announce an upcoming piece we're going to title, "The American Accountability Act." The piece will aim to try and articulate policies we could pass that would discourage parasitic behavior festering itself in DC. One such proposal is term limits. We need to make it so these people can't nest up and create a network of corruption at the expense of solving the most challenging issues confronting society that hurt real people. The behavior is just unacceptable, and I do not think the Founding Fathers foresaw us arriving at a destination where politics would become another industry for people to grow notoriety, fame, and wealth.
