Lady Justice

In many court houses across the fruited plane, one may find a statue of Lady Justice - blind folded, and carrying a sword in one hand and a scale in the other. The symbolism is nothing but overwhelmingly apparent - the sword represents justice, the scale to measure the merit of a case, and the blindfold she wears demonstrates her impartiality as she cannot discriminate based upon the appearances of the people before her.

In the show Dexter, however, two of the characters are standing in a court room, and one of them has a different take on Lady Justice. What if she wears the blindfold so she doesn't have to see the rank injustice that has plagued the justice system? What if she doesn't want to bear witness to the two tiers of justice in this country - the one levied upon regular people, and then the "elites" who are exempt from their own laws? What if she doesn't want to witness murderers, thieves, and the monsters that lurk amongst us walk free, only to perpetrate more crimes on the innocent? Her broadsword may as well be a butter knife, and her scale tossed into the trash.

In the show Game of Thrones, the following dialogue takes place between two characters:

Man 1 : If you want justice, you've come to the wrong place.

Man 2 : I disagree. I've come to the perfect place. I want to bring those who have wronged me to justice, and all those who have wronged me are right here.

Will anybody go to Washington and restore the justice system? The current Attorney General, Merrick Garland, has called concerned parents protesting at their local school boards "domestic terrorists," yet he turns a blind eye to establishment corruption and a gross abuse of power by the FBI and other intelligence agencies. It's a good thing Lady Justice is blindfolded or we may witness an abnormality - a statue weeping. Nancy Pelosi can insider trade up to a net worth of over a hundred million dollars on a salary of 175k, but you cannot tell your elected school board member you disagree with your local education policy. It's truly incredible.

Lady Justice may be a hollow symbol today, but she doesn't need to remain that way. We must continue to work to save our country and awaken people to the system that believes regular people to be a scourge. It's time for Lady Justice to remove the blind fold.
